Miranda and Andrew worked the crowd's every emotion. With stirring ballads, boot-stomping strumming and humorous asides, the skilled duo melded their voices, at times sending a purposefully haunting chill soaring to the rafters and beyond!

Reminiscing about my time spent at Delta Fair over the years brings back fond memories. Like many from this area, as a kid, I would eagerly await the day in July when my parents would take me to the fair. Playing games and winning prized stuffed animals that would later line my bedroom shelves was the highlight for me.  Of course, no trip to Delta Fair was complete without devouring some pink and blue cotton candy.

As I grew older, Delta Fair became more about meeting up with friends that I had not seen since school was out. My friends and I would gather and talk non-stop as we waited in line to ride the scrambler and the zipper. With every spin, we h...

This weekend I attended the  “Inspired for Life" event at the Brockville Country Club and if an event can be judged by how welcoming it is by the number of hugs received then this one was by far the most welcoming one I have attended. The atmosphere was one of inclusion and acceptance with a wide array of vendors. An impressive gathering of 70 exhibitors featured, each with ample room to display their wares and provide such services as mini massages, intuitive readings and more.

There was also a talented line up of speakers presenting throughout the day in an intimate setting on the upper level. Truthfully, with full intentions of sitting in on a number of the speakers, I simply ran out...

This week I had the good fortune of sitting in on a cooking class at Furnace Falls Farm in Lyndhurst. I must admit up front that I am a sister to Wendy, one of the owners. However, I am also known to be honest to a fault. Therefore, you are certain to receive an unbiased opinion from me.

Chef Mark Beacock greeted the group of us as we gathered around the large harvest table in the bright country kitchen. Some guys might be intimidated by a swarm of middle-aged women looking for inspiration in the kitchen, but it was clear from the start that Mark was unfettered by his mature female students.

The class was advertised as a Gluten-Free and Vegan Summer Snack Class to help those of us with d...

I had an absolute blast attending a women’s night at our local Home Hardware Building Centre. The owner, Jane Van Noy, and her staff provided us with all the supplies needed to build our own wooden bench. We even got to try our hand at operating some of the power tools with the very capable and helpful, Monique Berry, overseeing that part of the process. I’m happy to report that everyone completed their project with all fingers still intact.

The majority of the ladies stained their benches, but I opted out of that particular step because I couldn’t decide how I wanted to finish mine. I am a little disappointed with myself that I didn’t get any pictures of the other’s stained benches, bu...

I was blessed to have been invited to the Well Being & Women event in Brockville, hosted by Jennifer Phillips and Andrea Campbell of Dream with Success. This was the women’s first major event, and I am sure those who attended will agree with me when I say, “I can’t wait for the next one!”

Jennifer and Andrea set out to inspire and educate the women who joined them for the day, providing an impressive panel of speakers and a select group of vendors. However, they did so much more than inspire, the two co-founders of Dream with Success, created a safe, welcoming environment, allowing the speakers to share intimate stories of struggles, desires, and success. Jennifer and Andrea’s compassio...

My interests often pull me in a variety of unrelated ways, most recently I was compelled to take a Mental Health First Aid course. I joined other participants in Brockville for two days of educational instruction lead by Shelley McCaffrey, who is a passionate instructor and advocate with Mental Health First Aid Canada. The diverse group included those who already work directly in the mental health field, a local firefighter, a human resources person from a local business, a pharmacist, a community volunteer, a young OPP prospect, and me. All there with different views, opinions, life experiences, yet all with the same desire to break down the stigma that surrounds mental health.

While i...
